Windows Vista/7 Setup:

Introduction

To set up Windows Vista or 7, the main concern when setting up any computer for high-performance audio is to ensure that the music files are delivered from the A/D converter without any alterations that might degrade the sound quality.

Class 1

If connecting the Ayre A/D converter to a USB 1.1 port on your computer, there is no need for special drivers to run the converter. It is recommended to connect the Ayre A/D converter to a port with an unshared USB controller, though the converter may work on a shared controller. Instructions on how to determine whether or not a USB port is shared with another device may be found under "USB Controller Requirements" below.

Windows Vista has re-written the entire audio pathway compared to the older Windows XP architecture. For our purposes, this adds an additional step when setting up the Ayre A/D. See the section titled Setup below for instructions.
