Compared to the previous official release, this release adds handling of the new NET 2.0 capabilities while maintaining detection and compatibility with NET 1.0 modules, improves NET input status indication, adds remote codes, and fixes a DSD decoding bug.

Improvements:

  • NET sample rate capabilities increased x2 for PCM and x4 for DSD (with NET 2 module installed).
  • While NET input is selected, scrolling “dots” indicates that the module is still booting and/or a Network connection has not yet been established.
  • Added handling for discrete “ON” and “OFF” (RC-5) remote codes.

Bug Corrections:

  •  A bug that corrupted DSD (DoP) handling on NET.

Known Issues: 

  • Existing Custom Names may be corrupted during the update.

This firmware is designed only for the Ayre QX-5. Compared to the previous official release, this release improves S/PDIF connection timing when locking to a new stream, and corrects an issue regarding option detection.

Bug Corrections:

  • A bug that would cause the Network and USB inputs to disappear has been resolved.
  • A bug causing inconsistent Ayrelink communications in some units has been resolved.
  • Some older units were experiencing no output for S/PDIF based inputs in Music and Measure. This is now being resolved.

Improvements:

  • When using one of the reset functions in the setup menu, it is now more clear that the reset has been run correctly.
  • The time required to lock to an incoming S/PDIF stream has been optimized.

This firmware is designed only for the Ayre QX-5. Compared to the previous official release, this release re-enables HDCD decoding and improves DSD playback. There are also some performance improvements to network audio playback and better connectivity with Roon.

Bug Corrections:

  • Volume reporting through Roon now works correctly when a non-Network input is selected.
  • A bug affecting HDCD playback has been resolved, and HDCD decoding has been re-enabled.
  • A bug where non-HDCD files could enter HDCD decoding has been resolved.
  • A bug causing small pops when switching between DSD and PCM has been corrected.

Improvements:

  • Network audio performance has been improved slightly.
  • The Roon “Signal Path” now displays whether the main analog outputs or headphones are being used.

This firmware is designed only for the Ayre QX-5. Compared to the previous official release of firmware revision F, this version corrects a bug with sample rate timing changes and clock mode selection. It also updates the network naming for the unit.

Bug Corrections:

  • Created a sample rate timing change to avoid issues with DSD/PCM switching and drop-outs on some units.
  • Corrected a critical bug that caused the clock mode to behave incorrectly. This caused issues with MUSIC mode of all S/PDIF inputs to output lower quality sound than expected as well as prevented VIDEO mode from syncing correctly.

Improvements:

Updated the model name on the network list to help identify it on the network with new products.

Known Issues:

An issue was recently discovered that can cause short drop-outs in audio while playing DSD files over the network. When the DSD flag is briefly lost, this will sound like brief pops or drops in output. The correction for this bug will be implemented in rev. H.

This firmware is designed only for the Ayre QX-5. Compared to the previous official release of firmware revision E, this version corrects a potential issue with playing 384 kHz files and Qobuz capability.

Bug Corrections:

Corrected a timing error that could cause issues with some units causing a “popping” noise while playing 384 kHz files.

Improvements:

Added Qobuz capability via the network! The user must have an active Qobuz subscription to access this service.

Note:

Ensure both the network firmware as well as the main firmware (installed via flash drive) have been installed.

This firmware is designed only for the Ayre QX-5. Compared to the previous official release of firmware revision E, this version focuses on enhancing AyreLink interactions between products.

Bug Corrections:

Updated settings saving to improve reliability when updating the firmware to future revisions. This addresses the known issue from revision D.

Improvements:

      • If the unit is in DAC mode and the volume is changed, it will generate a volume up (QVU) or volume down (QVD) over AyreLink to other devices.
      • If the QX-5 receives a QOF command over AyreLink, it will no longer go into standby. This is a correction to match the AyreLink specification and make the product act consistently with other products.

Release Notes:

This firmware is designed only for the Ayre QX-5. Compared to the previous official release of firmware B revision, this version focuses on correcting some playback bugs introduced in revision C.

Bug Corrections:

All bugs were addressed with the same update. Issues observed with firmware revision C include:

        • When using an input in video mode, no output is heard when the sample rate is changed.
        • When changing sample rates, the output can become distorted or stop entirely.

Known Issues:

    • Occasionally, some settings may be lost when updating the firmware. If any issues are encountered after upgrading, it is recommended to cycle the unit off and then back on after ~30 seconds and then performing a system reset on the unit to reset all inputs to their factory defaults. Please see the owners manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset in the setup menu.

Release Notes:

This firmware is designed only for the Ayre QX-5. Compared to the previous official release of firmware 02.08.09 and general firmware B, this version focuses on improving Roon operability, USB functionality, clock switching handling, AP/WPS mode functionality, and some minor aesthetic changes.

Please note that BOTH the network and general firmware must be updated separately in order to complete the update.

Interface Updates:

        • “WAIT” added to the AP and WPS functions while they initialize as well as to the IP Address screens. This provides more feedback to the user while the system waits for responses from the CDMCM-210 module.
        • Custom names for each input after AES1 defaulted to all blanks instead of “CUST”. They now default correctly to “CUST”.

Major Updates:

        • Roon certification required several adjustments be made to the PIC firmware and the CDMCM-210 firmware. These changes improved/perfected synchronization between the QX-5 and Roon. Firstly, the QX-5 can now be brought in and out of standby using a standby button in Roon. Secondly, if the QX-5 is in standby when playback starts through Roon, the QX-5 will automatically exit standby and jump to the network input. Other small details were also addressed to meet Roon certification compliance.
        • Resolved a flaw in the code where the processor can enter a bad state and the unit will stop playing. This issue has now been resolved.
        • An issue with clock switching has been resolved. Previously, switching between sample rates could cause one of the oscillators to not power on. This issue has been resolved.
        • Small modifications to the code have been made to the AP and WPS functions to improve reliability.
        • The QX-5 can now play .dsf files that are recorded as DSD64 natively.

Minor Updates:

        • Firmware bug could cause the Ethernet module and the QX-5 mute flags to become unsynchronized. This issue has been resolved.
        • Start-up code has been adjusted to improve network function reliability.
        • Ethernet module will report installed firmware even when no network connection is present.

Release Notes:

This firmware is designed only for the Ayre QX-5. Compared to the previous official release of firmware 02.07.13 and general firmware A, this version focuses on addressing a few bugs discovered at release.

Please note that BOTH the network and general firmware must be updated separately in order to complete the update. If only one update is completed, the unit will still exhibit the same behavior as the previous firmware version.

        • Resolved a bug encountered when connecting to the network via AP mode. This bug caused the QX-5 to display
          “AP …” and never display “CONNECTED”, even after having found the network. The unit will now correctly display “CONNECTED” when it has successfully connected to the network.
        • Resolved a bug that could occasionally cause the network playback to drop off while switching to inputs other than 10. This was encountered in some networks while actively sending the network module a file while simultaneously playing a different sample rate through a different input that was selected. This would cause the module to no longer respond to commands until the unit was powered off and back on.
        • Added AyreLink ID “D” when selecting DX-5 from the pre-programmed inputs naming list.
        • Modified the QX-5 to only accept volume up/down commands via AyreLink for product ID “Q” to avoid conflicts with other Ayre devices found in a typical system. Before it would accept all AyreLink volume commands regardless of product ID.
        • Added an option to reset the network connection via the Setup Menu (found under NET). This allows the user to force the network module to search again for a network connection via a connected Ethernet connection and can be used if a connection is not found when first setting the unit up. Before, the QX-5 may not see an Ethernet connection if the Ethernet cable is connected after the unit has already been plugged in and powered on and could only be reset by turning the power off and back on again. Using reset also forces the network module to forget all WiFi settings and device naming previously setup. This is useful if using the QX-5 wirelessly with a different network.

        • An issue with clock switching has been resolved. Previously, switching between sample rates could cause one of the oscillators to not power on. This issue has been resolved.
        • Small modifications to the code have been made to the AP and WPS functions to improve reliability.
        • The QX-5 can now play .dsf files that are recorded as DSD64 natively.

Minor Updates:

        • Firmware bug could cause the Ethernet module and the QX-5 mute flags to become unsynchronized. This issue has been resolved.
        • Start-up code has been adjusted to improve network function reliability.
        • Ethernet module will report installed firmware even when no network connection is present.

Release Notes:

This firmware is designed only for the Ayre QX-5. Compared to the previous official release of firmware 02.07.13 and general firmware A, this version focuses on addressing a few bugs discovered at release.

Please note that BOTH the network and general firmware must be updated separately in order to complete the update. If only one update is completed, the unit will still exhibit the same behavior as the previous firmware version.

        • Resolved a bug encountered when connecting to the network via AP mode. This bug caused the QX-5 to display
          “AP …” and never display “CONNECTED”, even after having found the network. The unit will now correctly display “CONNECTED” when it has successfully connected to the network.
        • Resolved a bug that could occasionally cause the network playback to drop off while switching to inputs other than 10. This was encountered in some networks while actively sending the network module a file while simultaneously playing a different sample rate through a different input that was selected. This would cause the module to no longer respond to commands until the unit was powered off and back on.
        • Added AyreLink ID “D” when selecting DX-5 from the pre-programmed inputs naming list.
        • Modified the QX-5 to only accept volume up/down commands via AyreLink for product ID “Q” to avoid conflicts with other Ayre devices found in a typical system. Before it would accept all AyreLink volume commands regardless of product ID.
        • Added an option to reset the network connection via the Setup Menu (found under NET). This allows the user to force the network module to search again for a network connection via a connected Ethernet connection and can be used if a connection is not found when first setting the unit up. Before, the QX-5 may not see an Ethernet connection if the Ethernet cable is connected after the unit has already been plugged in and powered on and could only be reset by turning the power off and back on again. Using reset also forces the network module to forget all WiFi settings and device naming previously setup. This is useful if using the QX-5 wirelessly with a different network.
